KGA/KACS Workers' Compensation Insurance Program

The Kentucky Grocers Association and Kentucky Association of Convenience Stores are pleased to announce our newest hand picked benefit for association members. This endorsed KGA/KACS Workers’ Comp Program (the Program) has been designed specifically for the workers’ comp coverage needs of local grocers and convenience stores.This is home grown and locally administered, with adjusters and claims personnel who live and work in Kentucky.

Who is eligible to purchase Workers’
Compensation from the Program?
Any member or owner who is already a member in
good standing or who is willng to become a member
of either the KGA or KACS is eligible to apply for
coverage by the Program.
How are rates determined?
Participants are rated based on the National Council
on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) employment classification
codes used by the commercial insurance industry.
The appropriate rate is applied to the employer’s
payroll for each employment classification.
How are premiums determined?
The Program has a competitive expense factor and
each prospect’s individual loss experience and safety
environment is taken into consideration when pricing.
What about experience rating?
Experience rating is performed and used in the
calculation of your premium.
How can the program provide cost effective
workers’ compensation coverage?
1. The program is designed as a benefit to the members
of the KGA/KACS.
2. The Program’s lower operating expenses and
overhead means greater savings for members.
3. The Program has strict underwriting standards for
acceptability into the program.
4. Safety makes insurance work. Full-time loss control
specialists inspect all participating members on a
continuing basis, at no charge to our insureds.
5. An aggressive claim management program is an
essential element of the program. Injured employees
are quickly contacted and all questionable claims are
investigated. Claims are managed by Kentucky based
staff, familiar with Kentucky work comp legislation.
Who Manages the Store?
KCA/KACS has found a solid workers’ comp partner.
The Kentucky Retail Federation Self Insurers Fund has
written business since 1994 and is managed by CCMSI.
CCMSI (www.ccmsi.com) services our Program as
well as 60+ Funds across America. CCMSI is SAS 70
accredited in both Type 1 and 2 categories and is
experienced in servicing multiple location accounts.

What is the Program’s premium payment schedule?
• Premiums less than $1500.00 require payment in full.
• Premiums ranging from over $1500.00 to less than
$3000.00 can be paid with a 25% down payment,
plus the state required expense constant and annual
dues to the sponsoring association. Balance will be
invoiced in equal quarterly installments.
• Premiums over $1500 by electronic transfer can be
paid with a 25% down payment, plus state required
expense constant and annual dues to the sponsoring
association. Balance can be transferred from the
insured’s bank account in equal monthly installments
on the first business day of each month.
Has reinsurance been purchased by the Program?
Yes. Excess insurance has been purchased to protect
the Program against catastrophic losses. The Program’s
excess insurance carrier has an A rating with AM Best.
Our excess carrier provides statutory workers’ compensation
benefits plus $1 million employer liability coverage.
Can a non-association member obtain a quote
for coverage?
Non-members can obtain quote information prior to
joining the KGA or KACS, but in order to bind coverage
you must become a member.
Is the Program required to insure all KGA/KACS
members regardless of their loss experience?
No, all members may apply, but they must meet the
established underwriting guidelines of the Program.
All applications for coverage are subject to approval
by the Program’s administrator and underwriter.
Must I wait until the expiration date of my current
policy to obtain coverage through the Program?
No, coverage may be written anytime during the year.

coverage mid-term.
